"w" as in wet

/w/as in “wet”

How to make it

Lips tightly rounded and the back of the tongue raised, as for /uː/, then gliding away.
  1. Round your lips tightly, as for "oo".
  2. Turn your voice on and quickly open your lips into the next vowel.
  3. Your teeth never touch your lips.

Common mistake

Touching the bottom lip with the teeth, which makes a "v": "vest" for "west", "vine" for "wine".
