Cookie Policy

A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser and reads back on your next request. Local storage does a similar job, except the value stays in your browser and is never sent to us automatically — the page reads it when it needs to.

The distinction matters for the list below: our cookies travel with every request, while our local storage never leaves your device.

All three are strictly necessary: they are what signing in consists of. Turning them off means you cannot stay logged in.

All three are set by Speekl, on our own domains, and all three are HttpOnly — scripts running in the page cannot read them, which is what stops a cross-site scripting bug turning into a stolen session. In production they are also marked Secure, so they are only ever sent over an encrypted connection, and SameSite=Strict, so they are not sent when another site links to us.

They are cleared when you log out, and expire on their own if you do not.

These stay in your browser and are not transmitted to us as part of a request. They exist so the app remembers what you were doing.

The two interview keys are what make an unfinished interview recoverable. Clearing them — or opening the interview in a private window — means those answers cannot be reached again from that browser.

No third party sets a cookie on Speekl's pages.

Payment is the one place another company is involved, and it happens on Stripe's own pages: when you subscribe or manage billing you leave Speekl for Stripe's hosted checkout. Stripe sets its own cookies there, on its own domain, mostly for fraud prevention, and those are governed by Stripe's privacy policy rather than this one. You come back to Speekl when the payment is done.

The AI providers behind the tutor receive data from us, but none of them sets a cookie in your browser. Who they are and what they receive is in the Privacy Policy.

Consent is required for cookies that are not necessary to provide a service you asked for — analytics, advertising, profiling. We do not set any, so there is nothing to ask you about, and we would rather not show a banner for the sake of it.

If we ever add analytics, this changes: we will ask for consent before setting anything, and update this page first.

Every browser lets you view, block and delete cookies and clear site storage — usually under Privacy or Site Settings. Doing so for Speekl signs you out and clears the preferences above.

Because everything we set is strictly necessary, blocking our cookies does not reduce tracking — it just stops sign-in working.

If the cookies or storage we use change, this page and the date at the top change with them.
