Cookie Policy
Speekl sets three cookies, all of them to keep you signed in, plus a handful of preferences stored in your browser. There are no advertising or analytics trackers on this site.

1.The short version
We set no advertising cookies and run no analytics trackers. No Google Analytics, no advertising pixels, no third-party tags of any kind on our pages.
What we do set is three cookies that keep you signed in, and a few values in your browser's local storage that remember your preferences. Both are listed in full below.
2.What cookies are
A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser and reads back on your next request. Local storage does a similar job, except the value stays in your browser and is never sent to us automatically — the page reads it when it needs to.
The distinction matters for the list below: our cookies travel with every request, while our local storage never leaves your device.
4.What we keep in local storage
These stay in your browser and are not transmitted to us as part of a request. They exist so the app remembers what you were doing.
| Key | Purpose | Kept until |
|---|---|---|
| speekl.onboarding.token | Links you back to the answers you gave in the introductory interview, before an account exists | The interview is finished and claimed |
| speekl.onboarding.step | The step you had reached, so a return visit reopens the right screen | The interview is finished and claimed |
| speekl.native.<language> | Which language you want explanations in for a given target language | You clear your browser storage |
| speekl.tutor.<language> | The tutor you last practised with, so it is preselected next time | You clear your browser storage |
| speekl.plan.view | Whether you last viewed your learning plan by week or by month | You clear your browser storage |

The two interview keys are what make an unfinished interview recoverable. Clearing them — or opening the interview in a private window — means those answers cannot be reached again from that browser.
5.Third parties
No third party sets a cookie on Speekl's pages.
Payment is the one place another company is involved, and it happens on Stripe's own pages: when you subscribe or manage billing you leave Speekl for Stripe's hosted checkout. Stripe sets its own cookies there, on its own domain, mostly for fraud prevention, and those are governed by Stripe's privacy policy rather than this one. You come back to Speekl when the payment is done.
The AI providers behind the tutor receive data from us, but none of them sets a cookie in your browser. Who they are and what they receive is in the Privacy Policy.
6.Why there is no cookie banner
Consent is required for cookies that are not necessary to provide a service you asked for — analytics, advertising, profiling. We do not set any, so there is nothing to ask you about, and we would rather not show a banner for the sake of it.
If we ever add analytics, this changes: we will ask for consent before setting anything, and update this page first.
8.Changes to this policy
If the cookies or storage we use change, this page and the date at the top change with them.
