"ch" as in chair

/tʃ/as in “chair”

How to make it

Tongue blade presses behind the ridge, then releases into a hiss; lips slightly forward.
  1. Touch your tongue to the ridge behind your top teeth, as for "t".
  2. Release it straight into "sh", with rounded lips.
  3. Keep your voice off.

Common mistake

Saying "sh" instead ("share" for "chair", "wash" for "watch"). Start with a stop, like a "t".
